The BeaconOne Healthcare Partners team recently coauthored a Journal of Applied Laboratory Medicine publication of the results of our collaboration with our client and clinical experts.
The study, undertaken to help inform diagnosis and treatment decisions in patients presenting with suspected infectious gastroenteritis, indicates that although larger multiplex GI Panels yield positive results more frequently than targeted midplex panels, this increased diagnostic yield is offset by frequent co-detection of organisms of uncertain clinical significance. These findings reinforce the important link between diagnostic stewardship and antimicrobial stewardship, highlighting the potential for judicious test selection to improve the interpretation of results and guide more appropriate antimicrobial use.
